Commemorating 1916

Representatives from the Irish Defense Forces recently called to Firoda School, as part of a National Strategy, to present the school with the Tricolour Flag and a copy of the Proclamation. During the ceremony the Proclamation was read by current pupil Anne Marie Healy. Ann Marie was joined by Mr. Jerry Dunne who 50 years ago was the selected pupil in Firoda School to read the proclamation at a similar ceremony. Hopefully Anne Marie will call back in 50 years time to continue the tradition. Will Tynan accepted the Proclamation on behalf of the school and Ciarán Meally accepted the Tricolour. The soldiers gave a presentation on 1916, the Irish Army and indeed on the history of the Tricolour. They questioned the children at length and were surprised at their dept of knowledge on the rising and on the history of the flag.
