Facilities

Facilities at Firoda N.S. are excellent and for a school of its size it certainly punches above its weight. Much work has been carried out over the years to try to provide top class facilities for the pupils which include-

  1. Computer Room
  2. Sports Hall
  3. Ball Court
  4. Pitch
Computer Room:Firoda School has long been associated with computers having been one of the first Primary schools in the country to embark on this Odyssey. The first computer, a BBC Master Compact, was purchased back in 1989 from DMA computers in Clare St. Dublin for the sum of £1135. This sum included a printer. The I.T. facilities have gone from strength to strength since and we are now very proud of our computer room which has 25 networked P.C’s. Each classroom also has a Teacher-laptop complete with interactive whiteboard and projector. In 2014 the school applied for and were successful in being recognised as a Digital School of Distinction, a department of education initiative which involves carrying out an I.T. audit on the school and determining if it meets very high standards of I.T. usage, knowledge and equipment.

  Sports Hall

In 1990 following tremendous work by the school community, which consisted of 25 families, a very brave project came to fruition. This was the opening of our sports hall a 60′ x 45′ custom built facility. The project cost in the region of £65,000 and was entirely funded by parents, teachers and friends. More about the fundraising in other pages. The hall has a maple floor, balcony, stage, toilets and a good size room to the side which has been used over the years as a kitchen, classroom and computer room. The value of this building cannot be over emphasized as it provides a multitude of recreational opportunities for the pupils. At Christmas time it really comes into it’s own as the children take to the stage to entertain a crowd of 300 parents, grandparents friends and relatives.
