Visit from Dog’s Trust

We’ve all heard of the phrase ‘A dog is for life, not just for Christmas’, but what exactly does it mean? Well today we had a very special visit from Fiona from Dogs Trust Ireland and her puppy Meg. The purpose of Fiona’s visit was to teach us how to be responsible dog owners and how to keep ourselves safe around dogs.

Here are some of Fiona’s tips.

  1. Exercise is very important for dogs. Fiona recommended walking our dogs twice a day.
  2. Just as children love playtime, dogs do too.
  3. It is important to give your dog the right food. Chocolate and grapes are not recommended.
  4. Don’t forget to give your dog enough water especially after exercise or they will become dehydrated.
  5. Groom your dog regularly.
  6. Teach your dog commands such as sit, stay and fetch and reward them for doing them correctly.
  7. Clean up after your dog. (Scoop the poop)
  8. Don’t forget to put a collar on your dog with a name tag. If your dog goes missing it can be easily traced back to you.
